Wimberley dropped their second straight game this past Friday in the Texans 35-7 loss to the Lampasas Badgers.
The Texans fall to 2-2 for the season while the Badgers improve to 4-0.
Wimberley took the first lead of the game in the first quarter as Texans quarterback Cody Stoever scored on a 17-yard rushing touchdown with Daniel Jimenez kicking the extra point to go up 7-0.
The Badgers answered back with a rushing touchdown of their own to tie the game up at 7-7. Lampasas was able to get the ball back before scoring on a passing touchdown, taking the lead at 14-7.
Badgers pushed their lead to 21-7 after scoring a 12-yard touchdown pass but the Texans were not out of it yet.
On the next drive, Wimberley drove down the field before Stoever punched it in from the four-yard line, cutting the lead down to 21-14.
But on the ensuing kickoff, disaster struck for the Texans as the Badgers returned the kickoff for a touchdown, going up 28-14.
Wimberley tried one last time to make it a one possession game going into halftime but to no avail.
The Texans did however make it a one possession game in the third quarter. Driving down the field, Stoever found Nolan Waida for the touchdown to once more make it a one score game at 2820 after a missed extra point.
Lampasas opened the fourth quarter with another rushing touchdown to extend their lead only for the Texans to answer back with a Stoever five yard rushing score to make it a 35-27 game.
Unfortunately the Texans couldn’t find another touchdown as Lampasas sealed the win.
The Texans rushed for 321 yards on 36 carries led by Stoever who ran for 222 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns. Running back Benji Olmedo ran for 76 yards on seven carries. The Texans were once again plagued with turnovers with two fumbles and one interception.
Wimberley will look to snap their two game losing streak on the road once more as the Texans face off with the archrival Navarro Panthers.
The Wimberley-Navarro series dates back to 1988 during the Texans first season as a UIL program when both teams were placed in the same district. Four games were played from 1988-1991 with the two teams splitting the results and leaving the series tied at 2-2.
Both the Texans and the Panthers would not meet again until 19 years later during the 2010 season where the two have remained district rivals ever since.
The Texans led the overall series 12-9, making it the the second most played series in Texan football history behind the Wimberley- La Vernia series.
Kickoff for Wimberley- Navarro is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Erwin Lee Field in Geronimo.
