After having two games canceled last week, the Wimberley boys basketball team got off one last nondistrict game as the Texans defeated the Blanco Panthers 77-63.

After having two games canceled last week, the Wimberley boys basketball team got off one last nondistrict game as the Texans defeated the Blanco Panthers 77-63.

The Texans improve their record to an outstanding 19-3 while Blanco falls to 18-4.

The big difference in the game was Wimberley’s defensive effort in the second quarter as the Texans held the Panthers to just eight points scoring 20 points in the period.

By holding the Panthers to just eight points, the Texans were able to hold off Blanco’s comeback in the second half to hold on to a 77-63 win.

The 19-3 Texans have had one of the best seasons in Wimberley boys basketball team history.

Their three losses have come at the hands of 5A programs in Liberty Hill, Seguin, and Georgetown East View.

The Wimberley offense has been red hot all season averaging 80.2 points per game including having two 100+ plus games this season.

Heading into district play, Wimberley will face a tough road in order to compete for a district championship and a playoff berth.

Boerne remains the top dog of the conference having made the state tournament last year.

The Greyhounds currently are ranked No. 9 in the state with a 17-6 record.

Rival Fredericksburg will look to gain revenge from the Texans after splitting the district series last year at 1-1.

The rivalry between the two teams became heated and resulted in two highly contested games that came down to the wire.

Finally Bandera and Davenport will look to compete with Wimberley and Fredericksburg for the final two playoff spots.

Davenport snuck in and stole fourth place in their first season as a UIL program.

Bandera returns as a much improved team from last year and will look to steal the fourth place spot.

The Texans kick off district play at home against rival Fredericksburg.
