Texans Volleyball Recap

Wimberley wrapped up their week with a non-district win at Johnson City and a strong showing at the Glen Rose Tournament by taking fourth place.

The Texans improved their record 14-2 despite losing their first games of the season to a pair of 5A schools.

Wimberley started off their week with a road trip to Johnson City to play the Eagles.

The Texans and the Eagles were locked in a competitive first set before Wimberley edged out Johnson City 2624.

Wimberley and Johnson City once again played in another competitive set. In the end, the Texans edged out the Eagles 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead.

The Texans aimed to go for the sweep but the Eagles staved off Wimberley’s attempts to win 25-22 and make it 2-1.

After dropping the third set, the Texans responded by dominating the Eagles in the fourth set 25-12.

Laney Hennessee led the team in kills with 18, followed by Lilli Sandoval with 14. Cameron Thames was third with eight.

Carson Peoples and Skylar Herring kept up the offensive attack with 29 and 20 assists.

Following their road win, the Texans made the trip to Glen Rose over the weekend to participate in the Glen Rose Tournament. Wimberley was placed in Pool A with the Alvarado Indians, Coram Deo Academy Lions, the Gunter Tigers and the Ponder Lions.

In the first game of the tournament, the Texans swept Alvarado 2-0 [25-11, 25-12]. Wimberley continued their strong play with a sweep of Coram 2-0 [25-7, 25-6].

The Texans met Gunter in the next game and swept the Tigers 2-0 [25-13, 25-20]. Wimberley wrapped up pool play against Ponder. Despite not sweeping the Lions, the Texans prevailed 2-1 [25-12, 25-27, 25-11].

Moving into the Gold Bracket, Wimberley met the tournament hosts, the Glen Rose Tigers, in the first round. The Texans spoiled the Tigers chances of winning their own tournament with a 2-0 sweep to advance.

Wimberley then met the Canyon Randall Raiders in the quarterfinals. The Texans once again continued their winning ways with another 2-0 sweep [2624, 25-20].

Wimberley advanced to the tournament semifinals where the Texans took on 5A powerhouse, the Liberty Hill Panthers. The Texans were handed their first loss of the season in a defeat 2-0 [16-25, 26-28].

Wimberley moved into the third place game where they faced off with another 5A team in the Melissa Cardinals. The Texans were unable to defeat the Cardinals losing 2-0 [19-25, 16-25].

Wimberley will continue their road trip with the Texans playing the San Antonio Southwest Dragons Tuesday night before the Wimberley View press time.
