Lady Texans over Buda Johnson Jaguars

The Texans started the season on fire this week as Wimberley not only beat the Buda Johnson Jaguars, a 6A school, but also won the Wimberley Tex-Fest Volleyball Tournament without dropping a set.

Wimberley enters this week with a 7-0 record and have won 14 straight sets.

The Texans opened up the season against their Hays County neighbors in Buda Johnson.

Wimberley won the first set at 25-17 before dropping the second set in a thriller 29-27. The Texans rebounded to take the third set 2518 before entering the fourth set.

Wimberley and Buda Johnson once again battled in another thriller before the Texans won the fourth set at 27-25 to win the match at 3-1.

Wimberley then started play at the Tex-Fest Volleyball Tournament where the Texans were placed in a pool with the Kaufman Lions, the Gainesville Leopards and the Skidmore- Tyman Bobcats.

In their first game against Kaufman, the Texans swept the Lions 2-0 (25-14, 25-19). Wimberley paired up with Gainesville in the second game only to defeat the Leopards 2-0 (25-4, 25-6) in dominating fashion.

The Texans capped off their dominating run in pool play with another win, beating Skidmore-Tyman (258, 25-10).

Wimberley advanced to the Gold Bracket of the Tex-Fest Tournament where they faced a tough challenge in their quest of capturing the championship.

The Texans met 4A powerhouse the Needville Bluejays in the first round of bracket play. The Texans won a hard fought first set 25-19 before winning the second set 25-18 to advance into the semifinals.

Wimberley met another playoff contender in the Peaster Greyhounds. The Texans blew past the Greyhounds winning the first set 25-8 before winning the second set in dominating fashion 25-10.

Advancing to the championship, the Texans met the Floresville Tigers. Wimberley and Floresville battled in a tough first set but the Texans came out on top, winning 25-19.

Looking to complete their sweep, Wimberley shut the door on a Tiger comeback and beat Floresville 25-17 to capture the Tex-Fest Tournament Championship.

Setter Carson Peoples, setter Skylar Herring and middle hitter/ outside hitter Mariah McCoy were named to the Tex-Fest All Tournament team while outside hitter Laney Hennessee was named Tournament MVP.

Wimberley will be on the road Tuesday before the Wimberley View press time against the Johnson City Eagles. The Texans will then go back on the road to play in the Glen Rose Tournament Friday and Saturday.
