Janette Barlow and I had an opportunity to sit down with Gary Zupancic for a recent broadcast of his radio show, “At the Hitchin’ Post,” for KWVH 94.3 Wimberley Valley Radio. I love conversations where you learn something new.
In this case, I learned we have over 80 nonprofit organizations within the Wimberley Valley. I haven’t factchecked this, but even if this number is not spot on, that equates to many individuals within our community volunteering their time and resources to a wide variety of groups. That really says something about this community and the difference that volunteering makes.
At Keep Wimberley Beautiful, we are a small but mighty group. We want to let you know about some of our upcoming free community events:
• Drug Take Back Day - Saturday, October 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Constable’s Office, 200 Stillwater. There will be an organized drivethrough dropoff.
• Citywide Clean Up - Saturday, October 26, 8 a.m. to noon, at Lion’s Field, opposite the Market Day entrance on FM 2325, at same time as our Shred It Day. Free dumpsters will be provided for dropoffs. Note: we shall close down early if the dumpsters are full, so come early. Many thanks to the City of Wimberley and Texas Disposal Services.
• Shred It Day - Saturday, October 26, 8 a.m. to noon, at Lion’s Field, opposite the Market Day entrance on FM 2325, at same time as the Citywide Clean up. Scouts will be on-site to help offload and shred your confidential documents. Donations for their scholarship fund are welcome. Huge thanks to Ozona Bank for co-sponsoring with KWB.
Finally, KWB has adopted a section of Route 12 and we’ll have our first highway clean up in September. Let us know if you want to help. If you like decorating, join us October 12 as we decorate the Welcome signs and Cypress Creek bridge for the Fall.
If what we do is of interest to you, then reach out to us at keepwimberleybeautiful@ gmail. com. If not us, look into other volunteer opportunities as they are plentiful.
Ending with a huge appreciative nod to every non-profit and everything they do. Who keeps Wimberley beautiful? We all do.
