July is Parks and Rec month. Wimberley is celebrating with an exciting challenge – the Parks and Rec Month Virtual 50K. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking to add some extra steps to your day, this event is perfect for everyone who loves the great outdoors and wants to stay active. The first 10 participants to hit 50K first will win an exclusive Blue Hole merch item of their choice! The Wimberley Community Center, 14068 RR12, will host Life Line Screening services on Friday, September 13. The test screens for carotid artery disease, atrial fibrillation, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral artery disease, and hypertension. The cost for testing is $149. July 13

Community Workout, 9 a.m., on the turf at Oak Park Welcome Center near the Square. Register for the one hour class wimberleyparksandrec.com. No charge to attend. Movies in the Park returns with the Star Wars movie, “The Force Awakens,” 7:30 to 10:30 on the swim lawn at Blue Hole. Make a lightsaber, play Star Wars themed games, dress up as your favorite Star Wars character and may the popcorn be with you! The movie starts at 8:30 p.m. and has a run time of slightly over two hours. Register at wimberleyparksandrec. com. No charge to attend.

July 19

Guided Hike, with a different focus each month. From 9 to 10 a.m., it is an easy to moderate 1.5 miles. Make new friends and become familiar with the trail system. Register at wimberleyparksandrec.com.

Shakespeare in the Park, 8 to 10 p.m., at Blue Hole.

Performances from The Central Texas Theatre Academy’s 6-week Shakespeare program, with professional workshops, full rehearsals, and set and costume construction. Presented in conjunction with Wimberley Parks and Rec. Free. Reservations not required.

July 8 to August 2

Wimberley Summer Camp, weekly indoor summer camp, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Community Center, 14068 RR12, for kids ages 6 to 12 and 13 to 15. $200 per week for residents, $250 per week for non-residents. Blue Hole Nature Camp, weekly outdoor summer camp, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Community Pavilion at Blue Hole Regional Park, for kids ages 6 to 12 and 13 to 15. $300 for residents and $350 for non-residents. Registration required at wimberleyparksandrec. com. Inquiries at 512 660-9111.
