Danforth has new principal

Wimberley ISD is pleased to announce that Mr. Joseph Holzmann has been named Principal of Danforth Junior High School. The WISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the hire at its meeting on June 17th.

“I am incredibly humbled and excited to step into the principal role at Danforth Junior High School and join the leadership team at Wimberley ISD,” Mr. Holzmann says. “I look forward to meeting our dedicated staff, supportive parents, guardians, and growing students in the coming weeks. I am eager to become an integral part of the Wimberley community and learn what makes it so special from each stakeholder. Together, I am confident we will build upon past successes and continue to make Danforth Junior High a vibrant community where everyone can thrive and succeed.”

Mr. Holzmann just completed his 30th year in education, including the last 22 in campus leadership roles. He has experience as a middle school administrator and teacher, and most recently was assistant principal at Alamo Heights High School, from 2019 to 2024. He received his Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education from the University of Incarnate Word and a Masters in Educational Leadership from University of Texas - San Antonio. He is currently working on a Doctor of Education degree at Abilene Christian University.

“Our leadership team is thrilled to have Mr. Holzmann joining our Texan family as the Danforth Principal. His extensive leadership experience in successful school systems will bring tremendous value to our students, staff and community,” Wimberley ISD Superintendent Dr. Greg Bonewald says. “We are confident that he has the talents to work alongside our dedicated teachers and staff to build upon the tradition of success at Danforth.”

Mr. Holzmann, and his wife Tracy, who is also a lifelong educator, have four children and will soon become empty-nesters, as their youngest child begins college this fall. He replaces Mrs. Christi Moeller as DJH principal, who has started her new role as WISD’s Director of Safety and School Initiatives.

WISD is planning an event where parents, students, staff, and community members will have the opportunity to meet Mr. Holzmann prior to the school year starting. More information about that event will be shared when it is scheduled.
