The Wimberley Texans Baseball (11-10-1) team took on the Canyon Lake Hawks (11-16-1) twice this week, one on the road and one at home where both teams defended home field accordingly with the Hawks taking the first game at home 7-1 on Tuesday and the Texans taking the second game at home 3-0 on Friday.
On Tuesday, Canyon Lake played an all around great game giving up just one run in seven innings which came in the third and only six hits.
Wimberley gave up three runs in the first and three more in the fifth with a late score of 6-1 and then the Hawks tacked on one more insurance run before Wimberley’s last at-bat finishing the game with a final score of 7-1.
On Friday, the Texans played a great game as Senior pitcher Finn Mignerey threw a perfect game with ten strikeouts up until the 6th inning where a pop fly single was hit to spoil the perfect game. Senior pitcher Maddux Coach came in as a reliever to finish off the game without giving up another hit giving the Texans a complete game team shutout win over the Hawks.
On the batting side, the Texans didn’t score until the 4th inning where they scored one run and then two in the fifth, which was enough to get it done with the masterclass performance they got on the mound by the two senior pitchers.
With the split series, the Texans sit in third place in the district standings, one game behind second place Davenport and two games out of first place Boerne.
The Texans will now prepare for the Boerne Greyhounds (21-8) where they will have their last home game at the Wimberley baseball fields on Tuesday at 7 p.m. This game will display the 1 and 2 team in the district for their final two games as Wimberley will then go to Boerne and play an away game on Friday to finish up the season.
