Despite clouds and intermittent sprinkles, GumboFest drew a hungry crowd out to the Cypress Falls Swimming Hole in Woodcreek for gumbo, good times and great music.
Eleven teams of chefs competed for “Best Gumbo,” offering dark velvety roux, light spicy roux and everything in between.
Taking the $500 first prize and voted People’s Choice was the Crabby Daddys team. Second place went to Dr. Brisket who won a two night stay at Cypress Falls. Third place went to the Roux on the River Team.
Music by the very big sounds of the band, “T’Monde,” from Lafayette, La. played “Goodbye Ma Chère Amie,” “Time Changes Everything,” “Tesla’s Waltz,” and other outstanding Cajun tunes.
The annual event that began in 1983, is held in memory of Tom Keyser, one of its founders, and benefits My Neighbor’s Keeper, a local non-profit that provides short-term, immediate financial assistance to area victims of natural disasters.
