A shout out to Janette Barlow

It’s February – let’s keep the love going with a shout out to the many volunteers across the multiple organizations that contribute to this community.

For this article, we want to highlight our long-standing Keep Wimberley Beautiful volunteer, current vice president and overall powerhouse of a woman, Ms. Janette Barlow, who we all cherish at KWB. She is just one of our many amazing volunteers who gives their time to many projects.

Janette moved to Wimberley in 1991 and joined KWB seven years ago. She grew up in a family where service to others was inspiring and a platform for learning. She recalls that it was common for her to get on her bicycle and take care of a neighbor experiencing a life-changing event. This was the beginning of her volunteer journey.

The night she graduated high school, her parents gifted her with a plaque (words from Henry Drummond), “I shall pass through this world once. Any good therefore, that I can do, or kindness that I can show any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

When asked what areas she would like KWB to expand upon this year, she said, “increase our volunteer forces. . . and make connections with our youth to pass on education and practice in the field of KWB’s mission.” In addition to our clean up days around parks, we welcome ideas to engage more with our community’s youth. Do you need volunteer hours for school? Please send ideas on how we can help your group or organization to our email, keepwimberleybeautiful@ gmail. com.
