Lady Texans fall to the Billies

The Lady Texans got their second showing of the number one team in the district, the Fredericksburg Billies, (24-4) in Wimberley Tuesday night with a chance to tie the series up after a loss to them on the road earlier in the season. Unfortunately that was not the case as the Texans fell short losing 63-44.

The Texans had a slow start against Fredericksburg allowing them to go on a 12-2 run in the first as they trailed 22-12 after the first quarter. In the second quarter both teams went back and forth as neither team could go on a run to gain momentum in the game. The second quarter saw the Billies go up 16 before halftime with a score of 38-22. In the third the Texans didn’t allow Fredericksburg to go on any runs but Wimberley couldn’t make a run of their own either as the third quarter ended with a score of 51-32. In the fourth the Texans needed to make a run but the Billies did a good job in slowing the game down and forcing the Texans to slow down as they ran a full court press defense. Both teams went back and forth trading baskets and defensive stops as the clock ticked out with a final score of 63-44 as the Texans couldn’t bring themselves back into the game.

“Again, we dug ourselves a little bit of a hole in the first quarter, going down 10, and then only losing by 19. They came out hot and we were unable to go on a run to get back into the game” Coach Caleb Hall stated after the game.

On Friday night the Lady Texans traveled to Davenport to take on the Wolves (14-11) in a must win game as the loser would be knocked down to the 5th place spot in district. Fortunately the Texans were able to win a big one on the road with a final score of 42-32.

The Lady Texans (1913) will tip off a district matchup game against the last place team in the district, the Bandera Bulldogs (16-14) at noon Tuesday in Wimberley. The Lady Texans are currently (4-4) in district play and hold the 4th place spot.
