Jim Chiles, outgoing Place Four City Council member, has filed an application to run for the position of mayor in the upcoming City of Wimberley General Election May 4. He is hoping to fill the slot left by outgoing Mayor Gina Fulkerson. For Place Two on the City Council, Bo Bowman has put forth his application to replace outgoing Teresa Shell. Robert Clark has applied to fill Place Four. The City began accepting applications January 17 and will continue until the deadline on February 16 at 5 p.m.
In the meeting held January 18, the Council voted to approve a conditional use permit to KWVH, 94.3, for a transmitter tower near their studios on Old Kyle Road, that will allow them to transmit their signal without the use of an internet service, to increase reliability. Should cell phone and internet services go down, residents will be able to tune their car and home radios to 94.3 for emergency news.
The Council also approved a conditional use permit filed by Russell Whisler to operate a vacation rental property at 105 A & B Old Kyle Road, which is a Commercial High Impact zone.
Richard Shaver, Parks Director, asked the Council to approve his department’s ongoing work on a number of parks projects including new trail, facility and rules signage, a possible shade canopy at Oak Park, the replacement of sand in the volleyball courts, and updating the park’s masterplan that will be presented in February.
Leanne Kirby, Tourism Director, presented the Council with a report on her department’s tourism achievements in 2023. She also updated the Council with a report on plans for the April 8 total eclipse.
