The Homeless Coalition of Hays County is coordinating the Point In Time Count taking place January 25. The Point In Time Count is an annual census of people who are experiencing homelessness and is mandated by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Volunteers and staff of the Homeless Coalition of Hays County will cover the entire county to document the number of homeless on one day. The information gathered in Hays County is sent to the Texas Homeless Network who forward the data to HUD. The data allows the government to comprehend the number of people experiencing homelessness within the country as well as Hays County.
Volunteers are needed to help locate the homeless on January 25. Training is mandatory for those going into the field. Volunteers are also needed to help with a hot lunch at Southside Community Center and to assist at the staging point for the volunteers.
