On Tuesday night the Wimberley Texans (17-11) went on the road to take on the Navarro Panthers (20-9) in a district matchup game. The Texans were unable to pull out a win in a close one losing to the Panthers 6458.
Neither team was able to pull away in the first quarter as Wimberley was up by one going into the second where the Texans played some stellar defense and went on a run going up 24-12 in the second quarter. In the third the Panthers clawed back into the game little by little as Wimberley led 41-37 going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter it was back and forth as both teams were knocking down big shot after big shot. At the end of the fourth quarter the first 32 minutes of play was not enough to decide a winner so the fans got a little extra game time for their ticket as they went into overtime. In overtime the Panthers striked first going on a 5-0 run with a huge three pointer that took the life out of the Texans and was just enough to hold off Wimberley as they lost 58-64 in a great overtime game.
“It was a tale of two halves,” Head Coach Caleb Hall said. “We played great in the first to give ourselves a lead and then they did a great job in the second to get back into the game and give themselves a chance to win” Wimberley bounced back later in the week as the Lady Texans defeated the Canyon Lake Lady Hawks 49-41 Friday night.
The Wimberley Texans (17-12) will take on the Fredericksburg Billies (224) at home this tuesday night at 6:30 as the second round of district play is in full swing the Texans will be trying to solidify one of the top four spots to secure a post season ticket.
