Donning concert black for the first time in 2024, the Wimberley Valley Big Band will perform on Saturday, January 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wimberley VFW Post #6441.
Pat Gillory, the band’s keyboardist and vocalist said in a recent interview, “Don’t let the grey days of January get you down. Our ‘Winter Cheer’ Concert and Dance will lift mid-winter spirits with new tunes and vocal selections that will set your toe to tapping.” The free concert-dance is a family-friendly event and VFW Auxiliary members will offer refreshments for purchase and guests are welcome to bring coolers.
“We call these events concert-dances because we have listeners who kick back and just listen, while others express their enjoyment by dancing,” Gillory continued. “We always have a dance floor area reserved.”
According to Gillory, the Wimberley Valley Big Band is preparing a surprise musical event to be premiered at the January dance. “On Fat Tuesday, February 13, from 7 to 9 p.m., we will celebrate Mardi Gras, New Orleans-style, at the VFW Hall in Wimberley. Costumes are welcome as are your coolers,” she said. “We will feature at least one ‘second-line promenade’ and lots of great music. Laissez-les bonnes temps roulez!”
Those upcoming events will not be the last for the band in 2024. Their calendar is filled with other free concerts and their second-annual fund-raiser, “Rhapsody in Bluebonnets,” scheduled for April 25 at Old Glory Ranch in Wimberley.
