As we close out 2023 and welcome a new year, some of us contemplate whether or not we should commit to making New Year’s resolutions. If you are like me, you probably go back and forth debating with yourself about whether you’ll actually get past January and continue to stand fast with your list.
Next year, perhaps we could all start a bucket list to try new things. Maybe learn more about our community, give back by volunteering for an hour or so, explore one of our parks, or find a new walking trail. Saying “Yes” to an activity that interests you and that will provide unique experiences could be just the ticket. Find a friend to climb to the top of Old Baldy with or help with projects at Blue Hole. Or maybe you’d be interested in helping KWB keep the Square litter- free (as simple as - If you see it, pick it up) or help decorate for the holidays. My new mantra is that I can agree with almost anything as long as there will be no trips to the ER.
People talk about bucket lists. You could have some big items on them, but many of the most rewarding items could be right here on your own doorstep. Try writing down five things. Unlike my KWB friends, I am not a natural gardener. Next year I have on my list to learn more about xeriscaping, asking lots of questions and pulling in their knowledge to help me tackle my yard. Even if I can start distinguishing between natives and non-native weeds, that would be a win.
We may all just make it into the second half of the year having made new friends, had adventures, worked on a community project, beautified our own small space or simply having gotten a little healthier by walking one of our beautiful trails around town. Give it a go, nothing to lose but so much to gain!
Wishing everyone a great start to 2024!
