The Wimberley Texans (13-0) competed in Regional Finals going up against the Sinton Pirates (10-2-1) at the Southwest Legacy Stadium in San Antonio Texas. The Texans got the job done winning 38-13 and advancing themselves to the State Semifinals.
The Wimberley Texans continue their dominating run of Region IV having won four regional titles in the last five years.
In the first quarter the Texans came out to an early 14-0 lead over the Pirates. After the first two scores, the Texans looked like they were going to run away with the game in the first quarter after the defense came up with an interception to give the Texans a chance to go up three scores. But with the Pirates’ backs against the wall early, they came up with a stop and got the ball back. Needing a score the Pirates went down the field and got into the end zone to put themselves on the board.
In the second quarter, the Texans got the ball back but they were stopped again. Wimberley was forced to settle with a 34-yard field goal to put them back up two possessions at 17-7. After the field goal, the Texans defense made another stop getting the ball back to the offense before the end of the half resulting in another Texan touchdown to go up 24-13.
After the half, the Texans defense locked down the Pirates as they did not score again making the game very easy for the offense as they put up two more touchdowns to end the game with a final score of 38-13 and to advance to the fifth round of the playoffs making the Texans one of only eight teams left in the state of Texas in 4A Division II.
Junior quarterback Cody Stoever threw for 240 yards with two touchdowns on 20 attempts with 13 completions. Stoever also got it done with his legs as he rushed for another 234 yards with three touchdowns on 22 carries finishing the game with 474 total yards.
