New Event Center for Double J Ranch Golf Club

Demolition is nearly complete on the old clubhouse at the Woodcreek golf course to make way for a new event center. Purchased in April by Joe and Jennifer Gambino of Phoenix, the course is now called the Double J Ranch Golf Club. It was previously named Quicksand at Woodcreek Golf Club, although ownership had changed multiple times since it was built in 1973.

The new owner, Joe Gambino, said the new event center is the beginning of multiple projects planned for the property.

“We are almost finished with tearing down the 50-yearold building built in 1973, that housed the course’s offices and showers,” said Gambino, who is himself a golfer.

“The new 6,000 sq. ft. space will be able to host events for up to 250 people. We’ll have a professional kitchen designed for a chef, a nice bar and accommodations for weddings with both a groom’s room and bride’s room and a dramatic staircase from the loft area. There isn’t anything like this in Woodcreek for tournaments, community gatherings, auctions, fundraisers or weddings and we hope that residents will find this very appealing.”

For the last 40 years, Gambino has been the owner of one of the top 15 Chevrolet dealerships in the country. He learned that the golf course was for sale through Jess Carson of the country music group “Midland,” of Dripping Springs. They became friends when the band played for Jennifer Gambino’’s 50th birthday party. While they live in Phoenix, they also own a home on Mustang Valley Drive.

Besides the new event center, other changes have occurred since the course was purchased last year. A new pro shop opened in June and, according to Gambino, “New golf carts will be delivered soon.”

“Our Head Pro is Chris Godwin and our head Superintendent is Kevin Bagley. In the food trailer that we have now is Erica Riley who handles all the food and beverages. With our “super” new Superintendent, we are about a year away from “perfection,” he said.

Construction is by Barns and Buildings and once ground is broken, Gambino expects that the building will be completed in June or July.
