The Wimberley boys’ golf team took top honors at the home tournament at Quicksand Golf Course, and Wimberley’s Jaxon Donaldson took first place overall with a two-under 70. The girls’ golf team placed second with the team’s top scorer Hallie Adare placing second overall with a score of 80.
“Anytime you can put a medal around your neck at home, it’s a special feeling,” Golf Coach Dane Saucier said.
A strong back nine led Donaldson to victory over stiff competition. Gage Pruitt followed up with an 84 for the boys’ and Cody Stoever shot an 88. Bryson Young and Kellar Cudney rounded out the team score with both shooting a 90.
“We are a really young team,” Saucier said. “We have three sophomores, a senior and a freshman, so it is a really young team. Anytime you can get those guys a win and let them get a taste of success, it is going to be a good thing.”
Beyond Adare’s second-place finish, Madison Barbee and Peyton Smith both shot a 92 for the girls. Madelynne Rivera shot 109 and Brooke Burcham shot a 113.
Wimberley played this week in Comfort before taking a week off for spring break. The next tournament will be the following week in Fredericksburg.
