The city of Woodcreek celebrated Arbor Day last week as part of their mission as a designated Tree City USA.

While the public, volunteers and members of the City Council’s Tree Board looked on, a Desert Willow was officially dedicated by Mayor Jeff Rasco. The ceremony took place near Woodcreek’s newly completed gazebo in Triangle Park, at the junction of Brookhollow and Woodcreek Drives. The hundred-gallon Willow was a generous gift from Wimberley Gardens. Tree Board members, chaired by Iris Ramos, posed with shovels to signify the planting once watering is once again approved in Woodcreek.

Following the dedication, Texas A&M’s Woodland Ecologist and tree expert Karl Flocke led a tour through Woodcreek to educate visitors and to discuss Oak Wilt threats to the area. Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists and representatives from the Texas Native Plant Society were on hand, along with other vendors, to share information about the role trees play in our central Texas lives. Saplings and other items were part of a raffle, and guests enjoyed refreshments and activities for kids.
