The Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce’s October Mixer and Costume Contest, sponsored by Ozona Bank, brought out creative business members who came decked out in Halloween gear to celebrate the 2023 holiday.
Ozona’s Daina Slover and the Chamber’s Executive Director, Becca Hancock, served as the event’s Mistresses of Ceremonies, welcoming guests to drinks and appetizers and encouraging them to participate in raffles, drawings and the costume contest. They were assisted by Chamber board members Sissie Baskin of Vintage Oaks Farm Wedding Venue and Courtney Myers Mecklenburg and her “Barbie- clad” associates Tracey White, Caren Erwin, and Valerie Trohoske of Texas Medical Plans.
Costume Contest winners were judged in three categories: Scariest, Funniest, and Most Creative. Winner of the Scariest was Yvonne Thompson and her young protege, Zayen Burell, a KWVH 94.3 Community Radio volunteer who helped pull off the radio station’s successful fundraisers in 2023: The Kentucky Derby Day and the Casino Night. Winner of the Funniest costume was KWVH’s General Manager, Tim Kiesling, who wore an inflatable jockey costume complete with horse. The Winner of the Most Creative Costume was Marianna Calvanese of Wimberley Valley Naturopathic, whose punny, double entendre costume, Blessing in Disguise, stumped guests and judges alike until they realized its meaning. Notable entries included Erin Pate’s perfect Mrs. Roper costume after a character from the ABC sitcom, Three’s Company.
