Halloween in Wimberley got underway last weekend with the Haunted Pioneer Town and Train Ride of Terror. A production of the Wimberley Players and 7A Ranch, the two-evening event raised goosebumps as actors portrayed resident ghosts in the streets, the shops, the graveyard, the chapel, and other locations throughout the Western-themed village. The town’s newly operational 12-gauge railroad provided visitors with a hairraising trip as ghoulish apparitions appeared along the route.
The event is the handiwork of the creative team of Robin Wood and Laura Haygood who agreed to the title of “Creative Geniuses” for their huge role in conceptualizing, planning, and producing the spooky, open air performance.
After three years of canceling the production due to circumstances beyond their control, Robin Wood said, “We look forward to hosting Haunted Pioneer Town and introducing the “Train Ride of Terror” to all who dare take on the adventure. This event couldn’t happen without the help and imagination of The Wimberley Players and we’re so happy it’s happening again.”
Becky Williams was the lead organizer for the Wimberley Players. Anika Davis from the Drippings Springs and Wimberley Girls Scouts, Jennifer Bravo from the Katherine Anne Porter School and Bridget Farias-Gates from the Central Texas Theatre Academy and Laura Haygood from the Blanco River Academy organized the talented youth actors. Village Store volunteers decorated the Post Office.
The fundraiser benefits the Wimberley Players and assists in the restoration of Pioneer Town.
