As a part of the upcoming Hill Country Heritage Gathering weekend, the leaders of Wimberley Story-Fest and Wimberley Institute of Cultures have teamed up to offer a special outing for the public.

The event will take place on Friday morning, Oct.13. Centered around a slice of history in Wimberley, the group invites interested participants to come out for a tour of the museum, with both the Winters-Wimberley House and the Zach Wimberley House included.

The museum tour will be followed by a guided walking tour through some of the historical structures of Wimberley. There will be seven stops along the way. At the first stop, participants will see, and hear about the locations of the two gristmills that put our town on the map and the reason many people settled here, beginning in 1848.

The next stop will be Saunders Store. Established in 1890, it is now the site of Wall Street Western.

Then, on to the Saunders Homestead to hear about the history of this home.

A walk to the Christian Church is next. The church is preparing to celebrate its 100-year anniversary in this location.

The last stop on the tour is the original Blacksmith Shop, which is now the Wimberley Café. Participants will hear about the long history of this building.

The knowledgeable tour guides will answer questions and point out interesting facts along the way, so if you are interested in learning more about the history of Wimberley, this will be a great opportunity for you.

Attendees are invited to park at the Community Center and meet in front of the museum at 10 a.m. for the first part of the tour. The walking tour, which follows, will require good walking shoes for uphill, down dell and some uneven ground.
