Besides the treelined pathways at Lions Field, there will be a couple of other types of shade at Wimberley Market Day on Saturday, Oct. 7.
The first “shady” item will be the sale of custom-designed sunglasses made specifically for the two upcoming solar eclipses which will be sold at the October 2023 and April 2024 Market Days. The second item will be the appearance of the popular cover band, Little Beverly and the Shades, who will headline the Pavilion stage. “Wimberley is in the crosshairs of two solar eclipses coming soon,” Lion Amy Cox explained. “The first one is Saturday, Oct. 14, and will be a partial eclipse at 94% magnitude. The second eclipse is Monday, April 8, 2024, and will be a total solar eclipse.”
“The Wimberley Lions purchased custom designed ISO certified solar eclipse glasses,” she continued. “I created the design, complete with the Market Day logo, and all the specs of both eclipses. The glasses are $5 per pair, and will be available at all concession stands and info booths.”
Funds from the sale of the special glasses will enable the Wimberley Lions Club in their charitable efforts.
Cox explained, “The Lions’ share of the proceeds will go to the Lions’ vision programs such as SPOT Vision screening and the Lions Eye Bank. And proceeds from the sales will go towards a new program where we can purchase glasses for those in need.”
The second shade-related item will be Little Beverly and the Shades taking the main stage at October’s MD.
One of the Shades, Tom Gillespie, said, “We’ve played Market Day about 35 times since 2010. We are usually scheduled to play three times a year. We like MD because we get about a fourth of our other gigs from people who hear us there.”
Aside from their performance at the pavilion, more live music will start at 11 a.m. until about 1 p.m. on the two other stages at Lions Field. Katy Starr will play at the Shady Grove stage, and Cheyenne Saenz will play at the Hilltop stage.
Wimberley Market Day is held on the first Saturday of each month, rain or shine. October’s shopping hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more, visit wimberleylions. com.
