Wimberley ISD has announced that the library at Blue Hole Primary School will officially be named in honor of longtime WISD educator Johnna Dennis.

Wimberley ISD has announced that the library at Blue Hole Primary School will officially be named in honor of longtime WISD educator Johnna Dennis.

The name change was unanimously approved by the WISD Board of Trustees on Monday, Sept. 18 at its regular meeting. Dennis, who died in August following a courageous battle with cancer, inspired WISD students for 30 years.

At the time of her passing, WISD Superintendent Greg Bonewald, Ph. D. said, “Johnna has been a pillar of our school district. To know Johnna has been to know an original, a person of passionate conviction with a tremendous heart that allowed her to build deep connections and make a meaningful difference in the lives of countless students and colleagues. Johnna’s optimistic spirit and her commitment to her students and peers have had an immeasurable impact, and she leaves behind a legacy to be admired and treasured.”

Ms. Dennis started her career with WISD in 1993 and taught at Scudder Primary, Jacob’s Well Elementary and Blue Hole Primary. She spent two years as a computer lab specialist, later in her career, but quickly returned to the classroom. Last year, she taught second grade at Blue Hole Primary, where she was voted Teacher of the Year by her peers.

An official naming ceremony will be held at Blue Hole Primary later this semester. Information about the ceremony will be shared with the public as plans are finalized.
