Despite record temperatures in the area, intrepid organizers, participants and visitors got into the spirit at the third Wings Over Wimberley festival. A celebration of the Mexican Free Tail bats who live under the Cypress Creek bridge, the two-day event kicked off with a blood drive.
Later in the day, according to Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce representatives, the bat signal went up and Gotham confirmed that Batman would honor the festivities with his arrival. He arrived in his signature Batmobile and was seen dining on funnel cake and grooving to live performances and music.
Dallas Burrow initiated the performance lineup on the outdoor stage followed by Marvin Bottera and Broken Glass, The Southpaw Preachers, Wimberley Dance Elite, Bob Slaughter and the Laughing Waters and Jennifer Zavaleta and Friends.
Vendors and educational groups presented information about bats, birds and other subjects and community projects.
