The Greater San Marcos Partnership has launched a nationwide search for its new president and CEO.
The GSMP is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit public-private partnership that has served as a regional economic development organization for more than a decade. The organization promotes and markets Hays and Caldwell Counties: attracting new employers, assisting existing companies to expand, fostering entrepreneurial growth and ensuring continued development of a skilled local workforce. Its leadership is crucial to the fast-growing region’s economic development strategy.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for a leader to work with a great team of people at GSMP,” Interim President Will Conley said of the open role. Conley — a former Hays County commissioner, former GSMP board chairman and founding member of GSMP — took over as interim after the unexplained departure of former President and CEO Jason Giulietti in May.
A May 30 letter from GSMP Board Chairman Scott Burton stated the departure of Giulietti — who joined the organization in 2019 as a vice president and served as interim president before being elevated to the full-time position in 2020 — was effective May 24. No additional details were provided.
The person who takes over GSMP will be expected to work closely with other economic development groups in Central Texas, including Opportunity Austin and the Williamson County Economic Development Partnership. They will also be handed the keys to an organization with $1.8 million in fiscal 2021 expenses, as reported by the Austin Business Journal.
According to Burton’s letter, Conley is neither interested in nor eligible for the job.
