Above-ground pools stir the pot in Woodcreek

Residents of all ages came out to the city of Woodcreek’s meeting last week, motivated by a passion for and against above-ground pools.

The Woodcreek City Council was originally supposed to hold a public hearing on Wednesday, June 14 at its regular meeting to discuss adopting an ordinance that would have permitted above-ground pools — which had not previously been allowed in the city. While the hearing itself was delayed, numerous residents spoke during the session of public comment at the beginning of the meeting to voice their opinions and concerns.

Those in favor of these pools — also referred to as onground storable residential swimming pools in the city’s agenda packet — touted their recreational benefits for children and families as well as their therapeutic benefits for elderly adults.

Those opposed to the ordinance cited safety and maintenance concerns, while some residents encouraged the building of a community pool instead.

The issue will be discussed further at future meetings of the Woodcreek City Council. To view the council’s upcoming meetings or for more information, visit woodcreektx.gov/citycouncil.
