The second performer in the four-concert Stars Over Wimberley 2023 season features acclaimed, Grammy nominated, Ruthie Foster, following a huge success with Slaid Cleaves at the inaugural concert in May.

Ruthie’s show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the 100-seat Wimberley Players theater at 450 Old Kyle Road in Wimberley and will play without intermission. For more information and ticket details, visitstarsoverwimberley. org. The $60 reserved seat tickets go on sale June 14 and are expected to sell out quickly.

Ruthie Foster is an American singer- songwriter of blues and folk music. She mixes a wide palette of American song forms, from high energy gospel and blues to jazz, folk and soul. She has often been compared to Bonnie Raitt and Aretha Franklin. Her voice has taken her from humble church choir beginnings in rural Texas to a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy Band. She now calls Austin home. She has been described by Rolling Stone as “pure magic to watch and hear” with her signature blend of blues and soul.

Stars Over Wimberley is a collaboration between The Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance (wimberleyarts.org) and The Wimberley Players (wimberleyplayers. org). The remaining lineup for 2023 includes Ruthie Foster on Wednesday, July 12; Alejandro Escovedo on Wednesday, Sept. 13; and Sarah Jarosz on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Proceeds from the concert series are shared between the artist and WVACA’s Robert Moreman Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund annually gives generous awards to graduating high school seniors from Wimberley High School and Katherine Anne Porter School, who demonstrate talent in the creative arts — performing, visual, literary and culinary — or building-related trades (in honor of Robert’s profession), and plan to pursue higher learning at university, college, art or trade school. The Creekhaven Inn and Spa is providing accommodations for Stars performers and their guests. For a full list of sponsors, visit the Stars website and follow the Stars Over Wimberley Facebook group.
