Pedernales Electric Cooperative is inviting students entering kindergarten through third grade to participate in the cooperative’s annual Solar Car Derby Day.
The free, family- friendly event will be held Wednesday, June 21 from 9-11 a.m. at the cooperative’s headquarters in Johnson City and is part of PEC’s free online summer camp, Camp Savea- Watt. Kids who attend will have the chance to learn about solar energy from PEC experts, as well as build and race solar cars. This is the second year PEC has put on the event for campers enrolled in Camp Save-a-Watt.
Those interested in attending must RSVP online by Friday, June 16 at midnight. The first 50 campers to register for the derby will receive one free ticket to The Science Mill Museum and all families who attend the event will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to The Science Mill at a discounted rate.
At the event, campers and their families will also enjoy: a meet and greet with Wattson Racoon, PEC’s Camp Save-a-Watt mascot Kona Ice snow cones Stars and Science Austin’s solar telescope display eclipse sunglasses balloon twisting Camp Save-a-Watt is PEC’s free, virtual summer camp developed and put on by the cooperative’s experts. Through hands-on weekly lessons, students learn about energy conservation, nature, and electrical safety. With the help of parents and teachers, Camp Save-a-Watt can help our youngest members learn important tips to reduce their energy use and help schools and parents save money.
