One Wimberley resident has died after a vehicle collision over the Memorial Day weekend.
On May 28 at approximately 5:51 p.m., emergency response personnel responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash 2.3 miles southwest of Wimberley on FM 3237, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Preliminary reports stated that a 2020 Ford pickup truck was traveling southeast and a 2003 Toyota Camry was traveling northwest on FM 3227. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Ford pickup drove on the wrong side of the road and struck the Toyota Camry.
The Ford pickup rolled over and came to rest on its top in the northwest lane of FM 3227 facing south. The Toyota Camry came to rest in the bar-ditch facing west.
The driver of the Toyota Camry was identified as Brandon Johnson, 40 years old, from Wimberley, who was pronounced dead on the scene by Justice of the Peace Andrew Cable, Pct. 3. A 66-year-old female passenger — later found out to be Johnson’s mother — was injured and transported to a local hospital with incapacitating injuries.
Johnson’s employer, Butler Rental & Sales, shared the news of his death on their Facebook page along with the following statement: “We will all miss him more than words can express. He was such a good man and anyone who knew him knew how respectful, caring and funny Brandon was. His mother is still in the hospital with severe injuries and we hope everyone prays for her to come back healthy, and please pray for the family in this time of need.”
The social media post also instructed that those wishing to support the family should contact Ozona Bank, which set up a checking account for funeral and medical costs.
The driver of the Ford pickup was identified as Kenneth Obrecht, 40 years old, who was also injured and transported to a local hospital with incapacitating injuries.
The crash is still under investigation, according to the Texas DPS. No additional information is available at this time.
