COVID-19 pen pals finally meet in person

A resident at Alexis Pointe Senior Living in Wimberley, Helen Griffith, signed up with the community pen pal club back when COVID restrictions were still in place in 2020. Little did she know she would be meeting a lifelong friend.

A resident at Alexis Pointe Senior Living in Wimberley, Helen Griffith, signed up with the community pen pal club back when COVID restrictions were still in place in 2020. Little did she know she would be meeting a lifelong friend.

Her pen pal was Lillian D., who was in third grade at the time but had to stay home for school. They began writing to each other and developed a strong friendship.

It had been a little while since their last letter.

“Sixth grade was kind of busy,” as Lillian said, the grade she’s in now.

So, Lillian came by Alexis Pointe to hand deliver Griffith her letter on April 21.

“Let’s just say....there were LOTS of hugs and tears of happiness!” exclaimed Katy Starr, community relations director at Alexis Pointe. “Sometimes, the smallest things can make all of the difference. Thank you Lillian and her mom, Charlotte, for making our day!”

Alexis Pointe’s pen pal club is still going strong. If you are interested in being a pen pal, reach out via phone at (512) 8424152 or email Starr at [email protected].
