The Wimberley Community Civic Club awarded grants and scholarships totaling $75,000 to 26 area non-profits and eight students last week.

Of that amount, $53,000 went to local non-profits and $22,000 went to eight graduating WHS students pursuing post graduate education. The highest dollar amount given in recent years, $75,000 is the result of profitable 2022–2023 home tours and spring events.

WCCC President Becky Selman named the eight scholarship recipients at the group’s final meeting on May 12. The Civic Club offers financial aid to college-bound Wimberley Valley students who attend school within the Wimberley ISD limits, including homeschooled students. Graduates who have enrolled in a traditional university program or a qualified non-traditional institution of higher learning, such as a trade school, culinary institute or art institute, are eligible.

“The grant and scholarship meeting is the best day of the year for us at the Civic Club. It’s the day we see the purpose of our year-long volunteer work and planning,” said WCCC President Becky Selman. Established in 1979, the group’s membership currently stands at 145.

The recipients of the Civic Club grants in 2023 are: Amigos de Jesus, Barnabas Connection, Central Texas Theatre Academy, Combined Community Action, Crisis Bread Basket, Freedom Canines International, Friends of the Wimberley Valley Library, Hill Country Community Band, Hill Country Women’s Collaborative, KWVH Wimberley Valley Radio, Mini Equine 2 U, PALS PreventaLitter, PAWS Shelter of Central Texas, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Starlight Symphony Orchestra, Start-up Kids Club, The Misty Carol Project, The Wimberley Players, Wimberley Adoption Group and Rescue, Wimberley Band Boosters, Wimberley Good Neighbor, Wimberley Institute of Cultures, Wimberley Senior Citizens Activities, Inc., Wimberley Watershed Association, Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity, and Wimberley Valley Big Band.

Following its customary summer hiatus, the Civic Club will reconvene in September. For more information about the Wimberley Community Civic Club, visit wimberleyccc.org.
