Nearly 100 volunteers were honored by Wimberley’s Mayor and City Council at a family event on the swim lawn late last month.

The recognition ceremony took place at Blue Hole Park on April 27. City board members — including the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Transportation Advisory Board, the Parks and Recreation Board, the Ethics Commission, the Economic Support and Development Committee, the Hotel Occupancy Tax Advisory Committee and city parks volunteers were presented certificates and lapel pins at the event.

This is the second consecutive year this appreciation event has been held. It was first proposed in 2022 by City Council Member Place 4 Jim Chiles.

“Our city runs on the efforts of volunteers who give their time to make Wimberley a better place,” said Chiles, who has continued to spearhead the event. “We appreciate their input and valuable service.”

The weather was sunny when volunteers and their families were treated to a burrito and taco bar creekside at the park. Local band “Time of Night” entertained the crowd with live music.

In addition to Chiles, Wimberley Mayor Gina Fulkerson and Council Members Rebecca Minnick, Teresa Shell, Chris Sheffield and David Cohen were in attendance to show their appreciation. City employees, including City Administrator Tim Patek and City Secretary Tammy Heller, were there to help serve the volunteers.

“We hope this continues to be an annual event to bring together those who support our City in these important roles,” Chiles said.
