May is for moms at Wimberley Market Days

Just in time for Mothers Day, Wimberley Market Day will host hundreds of vendors whose treasure troves of hand-crafted products and one-ofa- kind items offer a number of gift options for mothers everywhere.

Just in time for Mothers Day, Wimberley Market Day will host hundreds of vendors whose treasure troves of hand-crafted products and one-ofa- kind items offer a number of gift options for mothers everywhere.

The market will take place at its usual location on Lions Field on Saturday, May 6. A variety of shopping, along with food and drink for purchase at a dozen concession stands, are expected to make for a splendid spring experience. As with each Market Day, live music from local performers will entertain the crowd from the three stages located around Lions Field.

Elliott Rogers will grace the main stage with his brand of Americana music.

A life-long musician, Rogers said, “I’ve been playing music since I was taught by my mom when I was six. She taught piano, but bought me a guitar,” adding, “Singing is as much fun as playing guitar. I also play a little claw hammer style banjo.”

Joining him on stage will be his wife, Janice, who plays the stand-up bass. During his time in Austin in the 80’s, Rogers performed with Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keene, Jr., and other notable artists.

Referring to his second Market Day appearance, he said, “We are looking forward to it. We hope to make new friends and do the shake and howdy with folks.”

Then, addressing the future MD audience, he joked, “If you have a request, write it on a twenty-dollar bill and send it up!”

Starting at 11 a.m. until about 1 p.m., Elliott Rogers headlines the Pavilion stage, Ginger Rogers plays at the Shady Grove stage and Lyda Plummer plays at the Hilltop stage.

Wimberley Market Day is held on the first Saturday of each month, rain or shine. May’s shopping hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lions Field is located off FM 2325, about a mile from the Wimberley Square. The $5.00 donation accepted at the Lions Club’s parking lots helps to fund the various grants and scholarships distributed by the Wimberley Lions Club.
