Last week, the Wimberley City Council discussed the plans for the expanded intersection of county-owned FM 3237 with RR 12, which is owned by the Texas Department of Transportation. A day later, the Hays County Commissioners Court approved the bid for the project to Aaron Concrete Contractors, LLC.
The intersection’s renovation was discussed at the Transportation Town Hall meeting hosted by the city council on Monday, March 27. The project, which was proposed more than a year ago, had been delayed due to bidding issues. According to the proposal, the construction would add separate turn lanes to the traffic signal for westbound traffic turning right from 3237 onto 12, for northbound traffic turning right from 12 onto 3237 and for southbound traffic turning left from 12 onto 3237. It would also add a sidewalk at the north corner (just to the right of The Wimberley View’s office).
“All of those things should help in terms of calming traffic,” Wimberley Mayor Pro Tem Rebecca Minnick said.
Now that a bid has been accepted by the commissioners court and a notice to proceed has been given, construction is expected to begin shortly (sometime this spring), to last for an approximate sixmonth time frame, according to Wimberley City Administrator Tim Patek.
The intersection is part of a larger $16 million joint project between the county and TxDOT, which will also add a light at 3237 with Winter’s Mill Parkway — an intersection which recently saw an expansion of its own last year with added turn lanes onto and off of Winter’s Mill.
