Letter to the Editor: a response from the Chamber

The Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce is submitting this letter to respond to numerous inquiries as to what will become of the current Wimberley Visitor Center after the announcement the City of Wimberley purchased property on Old Kyle Road and proposes to open an additional Visitor Center. The current Wimberley Visitor Center was conveyed to the Wimberley Convention and Visitors Bureau Foundation, a Texas non-profit corporation in September of 2012. That conveyance is subject to certain restrictions and conditions, including that the property must be used as a visitor’s center, and it cannot be sold, transferred or leased.

The daily operations of the Wimberley Visitor Center are directed and supervised by the Chamber Executive Director. The Wimberley Visitor Center is prominently located on RR 12 adjacent to the Brookshire Brothers parking lot and is open six days a week with ample parking. It is manned by volunteers who greet and assist tourists as well as locals who frequent the facility. Complementary literature provided from over 500 Chamber members is disbursed by the volunteers. They provide friendly tidbits of information on local events, places to eat, shop, and lodging. Visitors often walk to the square from the Visitor Center avoiding the congestion in town. The Wimberley Visitor Center is available to new Chamber businesses for ribbon cuttings. Chamber members have access to the conference room for meetings.

Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce has served the Wimberley Valley for over 50 years. The Chamber will continue to manage the building in compliance with the deed. We will continue our business as usual, promoting our community and its economic prosperity. We look forward to collaborating with the City of Wimberley in making Wimberley the Little Bit of Heaven it is known for.

Respectfully submitted, The Board of Directors, Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce and Wimberley Convention and Visitors Bureau Foundation
