The Wimberley Players are set to present classical guitarist Charles Cavanaugh as the first performer of their 2023 season concerts.
The intimate 108seat Wimberley Playhouse is ideally suited for solo and duet musical performances. Cavanaugh will be performing original compositions and telling the stories that inspired him.
Cavanaugh, who was born in Houston, studied classical guitar and composition at The University of North Texas and The Basel Academy of Music in Switzerland. As a student in 1980, he won the Texas UIL classical guitar competition, and in 1981, he participated in the Segovia guitar competition in England. He graduated with a computer science degree from University of Texas at Dallas and went on to work for 25 years in the industry in the US, Switzerland, and Sweden. He has been performing professionally since 1977, beginning as an Artist in Residence at the Austin Symphony Square. He has called Wimberley home since 2013.
Cavanaugh has produced two CDs entitled “Waves” in Switzerland and “Shimmering Light” at Bluerock studios in Wimberley. His music is inspired by jazz, classical and folk influences. The one-night-only performance will take place Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m.
