With tents raised, kettles boiling and the sounds of Marvin Bottera and Broken Glass throughout the grounds, the Fish Tales Crawfish Cookoff raised $3,500 toward equipment and housing items for Wimberley Fire & Rescue.
More than 200 people turned out to watch teams compete to win “Best Boil.” The winning crew were the “Tail Gators,” the team of Travis and Alicia Randig and Matthew and Alicia Ronshausen. They won an official WF&R patch and Challenge Coin issued after the historic flood of 2015. The big prize was the honor of retaining a WF&R Chief’s helmet for a year and passing it on to next year’s winners.
Brett May, a Fish Tales owner, and Sydney Johnson, a WF&R administrative assistant worked together to plan the event.
“We’re super fortunate to be able to do this,” May said. “We value the service they bring to the community. Any chance that we can support them so that they can support us when we need it the most, is a privilege. It’s one way to say thank you for all they do.”
The WF&R will use the funds towards a new fire truck they will be receiving this year and for the purchasing of personal protective equipment damaged in the 2022 wildfires in Blanco and Hermosa. Boots, masks, and suits are being replaced.
