The Wimberley Valley Big Band is partnering with the Wimberley Community Civic Club for a fundraising event: the Moonlight Serenade Dance.
The pre-Valentine’s Day event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Wimberley Community Center, located at 14068 Ranch Road 12. Attendees are encouraged to “bring their sweethearts” for a night of dancing and music.
“The evening will kick off with its signature tune, ‘Moonlight Serenade,’ made famous by Glenn Miller, and followed by a beautiful and varied program of great music for both dancing and just listening pleasures,” said Pat Gillory, a board member for the WCCC and band member of the WVBB.
The all-volunteer band is composed of a cadre of musicians who live in Wimberley and its surrounding cities, including some as far as Austin. As with all of the dance concerts presented by the WVBB, the evening provides a unique listening opportunity for lovers of big band music and tunes that put the “pop” in popular music.
Other features of the festivities include an auction of new and gently used purses, as well as snacks and soft drink setups.
Gillory teased that the night would offer “a few more surprises,” as well.
This fundraiser will enable the WCCC to gift grants to area nonprofit organizations, as well as scholarships for Wimberley High School students.
Advance tickets are $35 if purchased by Feb. 9, or $40 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at wimberleycommunitycivic-club. com.
