Texan Band members continue to compete

The Wimberley High School Band began the audition process for the Texas All-State band on Dec 10.

Band director John Winebrenner and his staff took 37 students to Smithville for auditions with 22 band members selected for one of the two ensembles.

Students selected for the All-Region Concert band include Shepherd Carter, Zara Facio, Amy Juarez, Jade Serrato, Charlie Warren, Joel Carrasco, Sean Greber and Alex Caldwell.

The All-Region Symphonic band includes Chloe Shipman, Jack Stevenson, Annie Novak, Shelby Logan, Adrian Atkins, Avery Knight, Cam Key, Juan Lopez, Hyatt Romp, Alison Bowell, Victoria Valkner, Marco Perez, Isaiah Carrera and Angelica Young.

High school students picked for area earned the opportunity to audition for the Association of Texas Small School Bands in Robinson on Jan. 7. Qualifying for the next level of competition with tryouts for area band are Jack Stevenson, Annie Novak, Adrian Atkins, Avery Knight, Cam Key, Hyatt Romp, Alison Bowell, Victoria Valkner, Charlie Warren, Joel Carrasco, Marco Perez and Isaiah Carrera.

After a crazy football season and marching contests, the students are due congratulations for their perseverance, stamina and effort.

'We have a few of these kids sitting in first and second chair that really stand a good shot at advancing to the All-State Band,' director Winebrenner shared.

In his first year as director of the Danforth Junior High band, Adam Apolinar took 45 members of the band to audition for the all-region band on Dec. 3. Over half of the participants were selected for one of the two ensembles.

Those chosen for the concert band include Ava Lee, Corina Joyce, Patrick White-Nunez, Tenley Rosborough, Vivienne Martin, Heath Wisdom, Ezekial Moreno, Quintin Buchanan and Jude Camarillo.

Students selected for the symphonic band include Christian Rang, Anne Krause, Katherine Gallagher, Alexus Casas, Samson Weaver, Grace Buck, Joshua Stratton, Scarlett Shelor, Gavin Jaggard, Sydney Cross, Piper Reeves, William Vinson, Bennett Youens, Pete Myers, Lina Coggin and Coen Grant.

District percussion director, assistant band director and Wimberley graduate Reese Spano represented his alma mater well, enjoying success in the percussion section tryouts. His Danforth team acquired the top three chairs in junior high band while the high school group captured both first and fourth chairs, advancing to area auditions next month.
