Wimberley Warriors fight to support sick, injured children and their families

The Wimberley Warriors were all about teamwork this season — both on the field and off.

The Wimberley Warriors were all about teamwork this season — both on the field and off.

The Wimberley Warriors is a homeschool, co-ed, flag football team based in the city of Wimberley. This past fall, the team made it all the way to sub-regionals, earning a trophy for their progress from the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League. However, their real impact as a team was made in service to their local community, making and collecting items for the Ronald McDonald House in Austin.

Families who have sick or injured children at Dell Children’s Hospital are able to stay close by to their children at RMH, right next to the hospital. To support the cause, the Wimberley Warriors collected food, household supplies, and miscellaneous items for the families.

Sage Summers, who plays center on the team, made quilts for the infants in the NICU.

The team delivered all of these items personally to the RMH.

In thanks for their service, RMH sent the Wimberley Warriors a letter as a token of their gratitude.

“You made our day!” the letter read. “Your inkind gift of food, paper towels, toilet paper, baby quilts, detergent and dish soap will directly support our families and provide much-needed care and comfort while they focus on their critically ill or injured child. Providing a safe and comforting environment where families with sick children can fight illness together remains of the utmost importance, and we couldn’t do it without you.”
