It was a big week for the Lady Texans basketball team as not only did the team win on senior night but also clinched a playoff berth for the third straight year.

The win improves the Lady Texans record to 21-12 overall with a 5-2 district record as Wimberley sits firmly in 3rd place.

In the Lady Texans 42-26 win over rival Canyon Lake, Wimberley fought off a furious rally by the Lady Hawks in the fourth quarter to hold on for the win.

“I thought we struggled a little bit at times,” head basketball coach Caleb Hall said. “Just taking care of the ball, we got too big in a hurry, and let ourselves get too sped up. There were times where we needed to slow down and be a little more intentional with what we did but overall we got the win and played great on the defensive end by holding them (Canyon Lake) to under 30 points which any time you can do that you can celebrate that victory on defense. We did get into foul trouble which killed our momentum on the offensive end but we slowed down on offense and dug in on defense and held it out.”

Coming off a rough loss to the Boerne Lady Hounds, Hall emphasized to his team about having a short term memory and focusing on the next game.

“We’ve talked about having a short memory,” Hall said. “You learn from the nights that you don’t play well from and we learned some things about the Boerne game. But at the same time you have to hit the reset button and be ready to go. That’s what I saw the girls do was shake off the loss and we took care of the next challenge in front of us.”

Campbell Woodard led the team in scoring with 11 points followed by Lila Dela Rosa with nine and Brooke Burcham with seven.

While the win was big in Wimberley’s march towards the playoffs, it was a special night for the Lady Texans seniors who were honored Tuesday night.

Mackenzie Ursha, Valeria Hayes, Madelynne Rivera, Makenzie Haston, and Brooke Burcham we’re all honored Tuesday night for their high basketball career at Wimberley and their contributions to the Lady Texan basketball program.

In their Friday game, the Lady Texans were able to pull off the 73-32 win over Bandera to seal a playoff berth for the team.

Leading the team in scoring was Dela Rosa with 22 points followed by Burcham with 12 and Campbell with 11.

For Burcham, the senior’s 12 points was enough to give a career total of 700 points.

The Lady Texans wrap up this at home against Fredericksburg before traveling to Davenport to battle the Wolves with an outright third place finish on the line.
