Wimberley’s Cultural District Expands

WimberleyArts.org continues to command the limelight with the news of the expansion of Wimberley’s Cultural District from a small downtown area to a large triangle that reaches as far north of the Square as the VFW Hall and Rodeo Grounds, as far west as the Emily Ann Theatre, and as far south as Savage’s Hill Country Bar.

The designation was awarded to Wimberley by the Texas Commission on the Arts in 2015, thanks to the efforts of WimberlyArts. org, previously known as the Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance. The designation recognized and promoted the Wimberley Valley as an arts tourism destination. In late 2023, the TCA approved the expansion of the district’s boundaries to encompass the entire Wimberley area. The new boundaries allow for the promotion of seven cultural and 15 visual arts organizations and 22 performing arts venues.

On March 3, WimberleyArts. org and the City of Wimberley will host a celebration of the Cultural District’s expanded boundaries, a new public mural and the city’s honor of being named the International Dark Sky Place of the Year by the International Dark Sky Association. The festivities will take place at 3:30 p.m. at 107 Oak Park Drive, behind the Square at the city’s new Welcome Center. The Hill Country Honeys will perform and The Leaning Pear will offer nibbles. Wine and beer will be supplied by Ranch Brand and Roughhouse Brewing respectively
