Sonic asked for local approval

It seems like there has been a rumor for more than a decade that Sonic was looking to build in Wimberley. Now, that rumor has teeth.

The city of Wimberley’s Planning and Zoning Commission will consider the approval of a Conditional Use Permit that would allow Sonic to build at 612 FM 2325, which is across from Market Days.

The property, which is a little more than one acre, is zoned Commercial – Low Impact (C-1), and a Conditional Use Permit is required to operate a drive-thru restaurant at the location.

The Planning and Zoning Commission could make a recommendation to the council as early as the June 14 meeting. It would then be up to the city council to approve or deny the project.

Also on the commission’s agenda is a proposal for 7A Resort to sell “beer, wine and alcohol for on-premise consumption.”

The meeting will be held at the Wimberley City Hall on June 14 at 6 p.m.
