It was history in the making for the Texans baseball team. For the first time, Wimberley captured the regional title, sweeping the Sinton Pirates in a threegame series winning Game 1, 6-2 before winning Game 2, 4-2.

In Game 1 on Thursday, the Texans and the Pirates were locked in a defensive battle in the first three innings, being held scoreless.

After being held scoreless, the Texans found their opportunity to score runs in the top of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Gentry McGinnis connected with an RBI single in center field to score Wyatt Yeatter and put Wimberley up 1-0.

In the next at-bat, Wimberley took advantage of a Sinton fielding error as both Cody Stoever and Sage Hall scored, extending the Texans lead to 3-0.

Going into the top of the seventh inning, Wimberley looked to add on insurance runs. Facing two outs with a runner on at first, Yeatter hit an RBI double into left field to score Ty Thames at first and extend the lead. Sage Hall followed up Yeatter with a single into left field before a Sinton error allowed Yeatter to score again and Hall to advance towards second. Stoever tacked on the final run of the game with an RBI single into right field as Wimberley went up 6-2.

Wimberley went on to get the final three outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take Game 1 at 6-2.

McGinnis earned the win, throwing five innings and allowing just four hits, one earned run, two walks while striking out two batters. Jackson Parker closed out the game, throwing the final two innings while allowing no hits, no earned runs, two walks and striking out one batter.

On Saturday, Wimberley looked to complete the sweep.

The Texans once again struck first against the Pirates in the bottom of the third inning. With a runner on second, Sinton committed a fielding error, allowing Bryson Anderson to score from second and put Wimberley up 1-0.

Sinton answered back in the top of the fifth inning. The Pirates scored on a dropped third strike before scoring again on a ground out to take their first lead of the series at 2-1.

But in the bottom of the fifth inning, Wimberley answered back. With runners on first and second, Sage Hall connected with an RBI double into left field, scoring Thames at second and tying the game at 2-2.

In the next at-bat, Yeatter scored from third on a wild pitch as Sage Hall moved up to third base on the same pitch. Stoever then hit an RBI single to score Sage Hall at third base, extending the lead to 4-2.

Sinton was unable to score any more runs as Thames sat the Pirates down in order to seal the historic win. Thames threw a complete game, allowing just one hit, two earned runs, two walks and striking out six batters.

Looking to punch their ticket to Dell Diamond, Wimberley will now face-off with the Bridge City Cardinals in the state semifinals. The Cardinals enter the game with a 26-6-1 overall record, finishing second in District 18.
